Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

WHAT IS COMMERCIUM?
Commercium is a dual blockchain (‘dual-chain’) technologies platform, that aims to curb the often steep, learning curve associated with entering the blockchain space.

The first blockchain, Commercium I (one) $CMM - is an entirely new genesis of the Bitcoin codebase that implements the zerocoin protocol. This allows super fast, cheap, and private peer-to-peer (P2P) and customer-to-business (C2B) transactions, and will serve as a general purpose, ‘utility’ asset.

The second blockchain - Commercium II (two) $CMMX - is a fork of the Ethereum codebase, and will further facilitate business-to-business (B2B) needs - allowing the creation + execution of smart contracts, multi-signature escrow accounts, and data capture functionalities.

CMMX is slated to start development in the spring of 2018!
HOW IS COMMERCIUM DIFFERENT THAN OTHER PROJECTS?
Utilizing a dual chain platform, where the privacy protocols of one asset compliment the record keeping qualities of the other - creates the necessary data and privacy optionality for Commercium users and their needs. Providing a full-spectrum solution for interacting with blockchain technologies - with an emphasis on ease of use and accessibility.
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?
By utilizing this design, the Commercium platform provides a complete, all-in-one solution for managing crypto assets. Transactions made using cmm/cmmx can be completely anonymous/private - or completely transparent- depending on the needs of the user. The Commercium wallet will handle CMM<->CMMX conversion for seamless and accessible use of all the platforms functionality. In doing so, we will bring the latest and the greatest blockchain + DIT technologies to your fingertips - in one, simple to use wallet.

WHY THE ZEROCOIN PROTOCOL?
When Commercium was in its initial design phase, we explored using the zerocash codebase - inheriting a type of zero-knowledge proof called zksnarks - for private transactions. One of the issues with this cryptographic model is that it is very complex, and relatively new on the cryptography scene - because of this, it has not been peer-reviewed and studied/applied nearly as much as the zerocoin protocol.

Both zerocoin and zcash use whats called a ‘trusted setup’ to implement a true ‘zero knowledge’ system. A trusted setup means you need to trust someone to generate some initial parameters (private keys, typically) and then to destroy them. If these parameters/keys are somehow stolen/hacked/copied - the integrity of the entire blockchain is compromised. If in the hands of a nefarious actor -the ability to mint new coins ‘out of thin air’ is possible.

This is obviously best avoided to begin with (trustless setup, etc) although, in the small chance it were to happen - the zerocoin protocol has a few key advantages over zerocash.

For starters, the trusted setup model outlined by zerocoin uses rsa accumulators which require the generation of two large prime numbers. The rsa-2048 parameters were generated in 1991 during the “rsa factoring challenge” - an academic challenge to learn about factoring large numbers, and to this day, a successful factorization of rsa-2048 has yet to be computed. The last publicly successful factorization was rsa-768. (you can read more about that and trusted setups here and here)

The benefit to this is that the key’s were destroyed over 20 years ago, and, additionally, at the time of their creation - no one could have known that decades later the keys would be ‘valuable’, because of a blockchain project (at that time the fiction of cypherpunk novels and video games) so it is even less likely the initial parameters were compromised.

If a zerocash ‘trusted setup’ model was compromised and a bad actor started minting coins - there would be no way of knowing. On the other hand, the zerocoin protocol has an auditable supply (because outputs are unencrypted). This way, we could track/mark the stolen coins as ‘tainted’ and could be rejected by nodes - for example.

COMMERCIUM COMMUNITY

HOW IS COMMERCIUM DEVELOPED?
Our roots stem from the community, and everyone involved in the project, started out with an equal opportunity to be included. As the project scope grew, and the community engagement was gaining, we decided to form central admin/exec team. We feel this is the best way to foster and grow a successful project - helping to stay streamlined and focused. Most importantly, we are devoted to delivering the best product offering in this space - period. We very much value and listen to our community volunteers’ feedback (when appropriate). We pull talent and ‘promote from within’ whenever possible. (We will eventually be doing bounties for future development/external auditing)
WHAT IS THE COMMERCIUM FUND?
The Commercium fundwill be designed to support sustainable development of the platform. Upon initiation of the primary cmm blockchain, a one time sponsors endowment of ten million units of cmm will be deposited into a wallet owned by Commercium the entity with controls in place to ensure the funds are not misappropriated. The Commercium fundwill be used to meet the demands of operation, maintaining infrastructure and rewarding developers of the Commercium platform and blockchains.
IS THERE AN OFFICIAL COMMERCUM BLOG?
Yes! Check out the official commericum blog HERE
WHAT IS THE EXPECTED VALUE OF CMM/CMMX?
We at Commercium do not make projections, or speculate the monetary value of our own assets. We feel that sort of conduct is both unprofessional, and possibly harmful to both Commercium and the community as a whole.

INFRASTRUCTURE

IS THERE A CMM WINDOWS WALLET?
Yes. You can find it here
WILL THERE BE MASTERNODES?
Masternodes are programmed to activate functionality at block one-hundred thousand (100,000th block). The Commercium development team will update the Commercium Wallet to implement this feature at a yet to be determined date. Running a Masternode will require a proof-of-stake holding of 10,000 CMM - held in a wallet hosted by the node.
WHERE CAN I BUY CMM/CMMX?
Commercium is dedicated to user security and providing a solid foundation through its wallet applications. Commercium will vett the exchanges just as they would vett us for listing. We will not list Commercium assets on any exchange that may be dangerous/fraudulent or of otherwise poor quality.

Please be patient as we gain traction - and begin listing on trusted exchanges.
